Blog Bat Around: $50,000 Is Burning A Hole In My Pocket

For the Blog Bat Around topic go here.

Going in, the game plan is vintage cards and rookies of some of my favorite players. No Pujols auto rookies, no Ichiro Japanese cards...just old cardboard.

I start with my all-time favorite tobacco era card, The King Kelly and his wonderful clouds:

1888 Goodwin N162 King Kelly -- $5,500

And now for my rookies or first card issued...

Satchell is buried in Kansas City and I'll have to make a pilgrimage someday to find him.

1953 Topps #220 Satchel Paige -- $3800

Bob is a personal favorite of mine because his awesome Bob Feller Hall of Fame [located in Van Meter, IA] was the most exciting thing in a family vacation devoted to the bridges of Madison County.

1938 Goudey #264 Bob Feller Rookie -- $625
Greatest left hander ever...

1948 Bowman #18 Warren Spahn Rookie -- $750

This card is my personal White Whale. Andy grew up 30 miles from where I was born and I've tried to collect his cards since I started collecting...and the fact that he's the first card in the most important baseball set ever made helps too.

1952 Topps #1 Andy Pafko -- $1,000

Well, that pretty much covers it...what am I up to? $11,675!!!!! What the hell? What am I going to do with the other $39,000?
